Abstract

For bonding glass to another solid material, titanium dioxide is incorporated with a thermosetting synthetic resin and a hardener therefore and the content of materials volatile up to 100 DEG C. is reduced to less than 0,1% by wt, the bonding composition is introduced between the glass and other material and hardened by infra-red radiation at a temperature not exceeding 150 DEG C. The quality of TiO2 used is such that the coefficient of expansion of the composition approximates that of the glass, e.g. 15-30% by wt. of the composition. The bonding mixture is of an epoxy resin or a phenol-formaldehyde resin and a polyamide, "Thiokol" Registered Trade Mark or neoprene. When an epoxy resin is used with a polyamide modifier the latter also acts as a hardener, but when it is used with Thiokol or neoprene, a hardener such as a polyamide or a conventional acid hardener must p be added as well as the modifier. A suitable bonding composition which may be used for a multi-pane window assembly (see Group X) contains 40% epoxy resin, 30% polyamide and 30% TiO2.
