Abstract
Pyridine monocarboxylic acid esters are prepared by heating pyridine dicarboxylic acids with an aliphatic alcohol, preferably at a temperature of at least 125 DEG C. Suitable dicarboxylic acids are cinchomeronic and isocinchomeronic acids, which give esters of nicotinic acid. Suitable aliphatic alcohols are C1-8 alkanols, but alcohols containing additional functional groups not reactive with the pyridine dicarboxylic acids, such as ether groups, may also be used.
