Abstract

846,258. Variable resistors. A. B. METAL, PRODUCTS Ltd. Dec. 23,1958 [Dec. 23, 1957] No. 14646/59. Class 37. A double potentiometer comprises a pair of rotatable cup shaped casings mounted back to back with a fixed base plate between them, and an operating member rotatably mounted in one casing and extending through the base plate for rotating a second casing. In the embodiment described a casing 14 has an elongated part 26 serving as a control knob through which extends a shaft 33 connected to a second casing 27 and carrying a second control knob 34. The casings are closed by base plates 1 and 30, which are separated by spaces 32. Attached to each base plate (Fig. 2 of Provisional Specification) is a resistive track 3 and a contact track 5, the latter being secured by lugs passing through the holes 7, one of them forming the terminal 6 (Fig. 1). Slots 2 are provided in the base plate 1 are provided in the base plate 1 for mounting the potentiometer on a support. A wiper assembly 18 is attached to each cover by means of lugs which fit into recesses in the cover (Fig. 3 of Provisional Specification not shown), each wiper having sliding elements which bear on its associated resistive and contact tracks. For mounting the potentiometers a frame 35 (Fig. 2) is provided with integral tags 36 which are inserted into the slots 2 and then twisted to retain the potentiometer in position. The frame may be riveted to a support member 38 which has tags 39 for mounting on a printed circuit panel.
