Abstract

846,170. Burners. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. May 5, 1959 [May 5, 1958], No. 14267/58. Class 75(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A burner nozzle 1 is concentrically disposed in a venturi 2 constructed of flexible, plaited metal braid and adapted to be variably stretched across air inlets 6, the stretching of the venturi causing a reduction in its diameter. The fully stretched position of the venturi is shown in dotted lines. One end of the venturi is fixed to lugs 3 on a furnace wall and the other end is secured to sleeves 4 slidably mounted on rods 5. The rods 5 may be hollow and convey gas to outlets on the lugs 3. The layers of metal braid forming the venturi may be separated by asbestos. Cooling water may flow through the braid.
