Abstract

<PICT:0845760/III/1> A machine for printing strokes on cup handles comprises a cup-holder, a carrier, an <PICT:0845760/III/2> applicator mounted on the carrier, carrier-moving means operatively connected with the carrier for moving the applicator towards and away from said holder to engage the handle of a cup thereon, and means operatively connected with the carrier for rolling the applicator along the handle. As shown, a cup 21 is held by suction on a chuck 8 mounted on a horizontal rotary table 1. The table is rotated to bring the cup into a position perpendicular to the carrier 91, and the chuck then rotated by a slipping friction wheel 18 until the handle comes against a stop 92 on the carrier. The subsequent movement of the carrier is controlled by camfollowers 63 and 78 co-operating with tracks 62 and 77 in circular cams 61 and 76, so that the applicator 100 which is of the size and shape of the stroke to be printed and which partially surrounds the barrel 93 at the end of carrier 91 is first brought into contact with the continuously rotating inking roller 110 and is then brought into contact with, and rolled along the cup handle so as to print the stroke.
