Abstract
845,347. Parking meters. BLOCTUBE CONTROLS Ltd. April 30, 1959 [Feb. 9, 1959], No. 4523/59. Class 27 In a modification of the parking meter of Specification 775,509, in which a coin gate carrier 3 must return fully to rest position after insertion of a coin so that a lever 11 is moved to a position freeing a governor wheel, the full return of the carrier is prevented if a coin is inserted of a size other than that of the coin or coins that the mechanism is designed to take. If a sixpence or a shilling is inserted to raise the coin gate carrier 3 for connection of a pawl 8 with a drive link 7 loaded by a spring 10, a pin 31 on the carrier rides up the face of a cam unit 20 rockably mounted at 21 and pressed against a stop 29 by a spring 28. A sixpence moves the pin up to rest momentarily on the inturned edge 32 of an inner spring element 26 and, when the sixpence has passed the gate 2, the carrier returns and the pin moves back along the same path over the face of an outer spring element 24. A shilling moves the pin up to the outermost edge of a lug 33 above a V-notch 27 and, on return of the carrier, jumps across the V-notch to return along the outer spring element 24. If, however, a coin of intermediate size is inserted, the pin 31 moves into the V-notch and the spring 28 rocks the cam unit so that the pin bears on the apex of the notch. As the carrier returns, the pin rides inside the inner spring element 26 until it meets a lug 32. The carrier is thus prevented from returning fully and a lug 40 on a trigger member 12 cannot move into a recess 44 in the coin gate carrier 3 and engage a lug 43 on a trigger lever 41 so as to move the lever 11 to release the governor wheel. On subsequent insertion of a coin, the incorrect coin will be discharged into a collecting box and the pin 31 will ride up between the elements 24, 26, the element 24 flexing to allow the pin to pass out into its normal path.
