844,565. Making pouches; multi-ply bags. QUESTER, W., [trading as QUESTER, W. [firm of]]. Oct. 23, 1958 [Oct. 23, 1957], No. 34015/58. Classes 94(2) and 133. Pouches 1 of synthetic plastic sheet material are produced by bringing webs 4, 5 of such material into face to face relation, successively feeding spaced stiffening sheets 12 of card or paper of less width than the webs between the webs as they move forward, welding the webs together at their edges 15 and between the sheets at 16 by means of an I -shaped sealing member 13, cutting the material along the seams 16 by a knife 20, 21 to form pouch blanks, folding one end portion 26 of each blank on to the adjacent portion and welding the sides of the overlapping portions together. Excess material is trimmed from the web edges by circular knives 17, 18, while grippers 19 draw the web forward to the knife means 20, 21. Holders 25 (not shown), 25a mounted on rails 27 grip each pouch blank and move it sideways so that end portion 26 is bent back upon the remaining portion by a folding blade 31 (not shown); they then guide the doubled-over blank under the welding device 28.
