Abstract

1527065 Bag form and fill apparatus S IZUMI 11 May 1977 19693/77 Heading B8C [Also in Divisions B4-B5] A bag form and fill apparatus comprises feed rollers 15 supplying a flattened plastics tube 11 from a reel 12, a cutter 18 for slitting the tube lengthwise into two U-shaped strips 11a and 11b a filling tube 17 for entering between the cut edges of each respective strip, means 23-25 for longitudinally heat-seating together the cut edges of each strip, and transverse bars 27 for transversely heat-sealing and severing the filled strips into discrete satchets. The cutter 8 is pivotally-mounted on an arm (5) having lateral guide arms (2) and (4), Fig. 2-3 (not shown), engaging internally the folded edges of the tube 11, the arm (4) being resilient so that any variation in tube width W produces a variation in the width of one strip whilst the width of the other remains constant. The filling tubes 17 have associated guides 18, 19, 28 and 29, and the entry of bacteria into the strips where the tubes 17 enter the latter is prevented by blowing hot air at 80-90‹C on to the edges of the strips from pairs of apertured tubes (34), Figs. 5-6 (not shown). The longitudinal heat-sealing means comprises reciprocable pairs of heating devices 24 each acting on the respective strip through opposed belts 23, the latter having non- stick PTFE coatings. The formed seam is cooled by water-cooled devices 25.
