Abstract
844,396. Follow-up devices. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. May 16, 1958 [May 17, 1957], No. 15845/57. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] Remote control apparatus for a flap 10 comprises a control lever 1 having tooth features 1a engaging helical tooth formations 2 on a nut member 3, a splined shaft 6 supporting the nut member 3 and rotating therewith, a pinion 27 on the splined shaft operating a rack 26 whereby a servo-control valve 22 which may be replaced by an electric switch system is actuated, an hydraulic or electric motor 16 controlled by the servo-valve or switch, a gear train 18, 19, 21 and 15 driving bevel gears 7, 8 and a screw jack 9 driven by the gear 8 and operating the flap 10. The gear 15 rotates shaft 5 which is in threaded engagement with the nut member 3. Movement of the lever 1 rotates the nut member 3 causing the pinion 27 to move the rack 26 and control valve 22 or switch whereupon the motor drives the gear train 18, 19, 21, 15 to move the flap 10. At the same time the shaft 5 is rotated causing axial and rotary movement of the nut member 3 against the fixed abutments of the teeth 1a in a sense to rotate the pinion 27 to bring the control valve or switch back to its neutral position. In place of the lever and quadrant arrangement shown at 1 a helically-toothed pinion may be provided which is axially movable relative to the nut member 3, but restrained against rotation. The axial movement of this pinion will cause rotation of the nut member 3 in a manner similar to the lever 1. Alternatively the pinion may be borne for rotation whilst being axially located, the selected position of the control member being obtained by rotation of the pinion through a given angle.
