844,193. Focussing devices for reflex cameras. PIERSE, D. J. Oct. 31, 1958 [Oct. 31, 1957], No. 34039/57. Class 98(1) A focussing device for a single-lens reflex camera has a lamp bulb 13 mounted so that its filament 12 lies in the plane 5 of the focussing screen 4. The image of the filament, reflected from the mirror 9 and then through the objective lens 2, is thrown on to the subject 10 which is to be photographed. The focussing ring 8 is adjusted, or alternatively the whole camera is moved, until the image on the subject 10 is in focus. The exposure is then made in the usual way. By mounting the filament centrally of the screen 4, the subject may be centralised in the picture area. The lamp is energised through leads 17 from a battery in a casing 18. According to the Provisional Specification, the device may also be applied to a twin-lens reflex camera, or may be constructed as a separate and detachable unit.
