A labelling arm for a labelling machine comprising an upright tube 1 carries at its lower end a body label pad 6 with suction openings 7 in its face, a neck label pad 9 with suction openings 10 carried on a transverse pivot 11 through two pairs of links 12, 14, the pair 12 extending downwards to a transverse pivot 13 that is fixed with respect to the tube 1 and the other pair 14 extending upwardly to a transverse pivot 15 slidable lengthwise in slots 16 in the tube 1, with compression springs 17, 18 inside the tube to bear from above and below on the slidable pivot 15, together with a plunger 20 within the tube adapted to be depressed to move the slidable pivot towards the fixed pivot so as to urge the pivot 11 carrying the neck label pad 10 away from the tubular arm. A bottle 31 is propelled in the machine by V-jaws 32 and a body label 29 is pressed by the pad 6 to the bottle. At the same time a roller 21 mounted on the plunger 20 encounters a cam 22 so that the plunger 20 is depressed and the neck label pad 9 is carried to the neck of the bottle. The pivot 11 enables the pad 9 to swivel to the precise angularity of the neck to apply the neck label 30. The labels are held by suction to the opening, 7, 10 until they have been caused to adhere to the bottle, the gummed sides of the labels being pressed to the bottle by pressure pads (not shown) after which the plunger 20 is released. When the plunger is not depressed the internal springs 17, 18 bring the slidable pivot 15 to its uppermost position, and in that position the links draw the neck label pad nearer to the tubular arm, so that its face is in the plane of the body label pad. This enables both labels to be transferred simultaneously to the pads 6, 9 by a common transfer finger. Specifications 746,506 and 820,433 are referred to.
