843,792. Controllers. WIEGEL, H. P. Sept. 2, 1957 [Sept. 18, 1956], No. 27681/57. Class 38 (3). A star-delta switch in circuit with an electric motor driving a compressor or pump has its change-over mechanism controlled in accordance with the pressure in a delivery pipe connected to the compressor or pump. As shown, a compressor plant comprises an air-tank 1 on which is mounted an electric motor 2 driving the compressor 3. A non-return valve 11 is placed in a delivery pipe 6 which has a branch leading to a diaphragm chamber 13, so that, when the pressure in this chamber increases, a diaphragm is moved upwardly and operates the star-delta switch. An automatic regulator 14 switches the motor on and off according to the pressure in the tank. The pipe section between the non-return valve and the compressor has an air-release valve for returning the switch to the star position. A separator 5 provides means for delaying the increase of pressure in this section of pipe, so ensuring that the motor has reached sufficient speed before the change-over takes place. The delay in change-over may also be afforded by an oil chamber between the pipe 6 and the chamber 13. The oil enters the diaphragm chamber through an adjustable small opening so that the pressure of the delivery pipe is transmitted with some delay.
