Abstract

A composition comprises a minor amount of an ethylene polymer having a crystallinity of at least 70% at 25 DEG C. and a major amount of an unvulcanised silicone rubber. Specified ethylene polymers are polyethylene and copolymers of ethylene with up to 10% of propylene, 1-butene, 2-butene, 1-pentene and 1-octene, prepared preferably using a chromium oxide containing catalysts although Ziegler-type catalysts may also be used. The silicone rubber may be prepared by the condensation of an organochlorosilane, e.g. dimethylolechlorosilane, this can be formed using methyl chloride, powdered silicon and a copper catalyst, or using silicon tetrachloride and the reaction product of methyl chloride and magnesium chips. Mixtures of biand trifunctional alkylchlorosilanes or other halide derivatives are hydrolized in excess water and condensed by stirring and heating. Inorganic fillers such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, ferrous oxide and silicon dioxide may also be present. Specifications 790,195 and 804,641 are referred to.
