Abstract
843,487. Siphon-discharge flushing cisterns. DONALD, P. G., and ASSOCIATED BUILDERS MERCHANTS Ltd. Aug. 15, 1956 [Aug. 15, 1955], No. 23446/55. Class 26. In a flushing cistern which may be moulded from plastic, including a stand-pipe 4 for siphonic discharge mounted in a tank with a well 2 by means of an aluminium member 9 in a hole 3, the external surface of the portion 5 of the pipe 4 is flared outwardly towards its lower end to give an annular abutting surface of relatively large cross-section engaging with the bottom of the tank 1, and the mounting member 9 is threaded to be held in position by a rib 11 and nut 16 with a washer 16a or by means of a cooperating thread in the hole. A bell 17 fits over the part 5 to define with the latter a space from which water can be forced thereinto by longitudinal movement of the bell 17 to initiate siphonage, and which is of substantially uniform cross-sectional area before and after siphonic action is initiated, and converges upwardly. The parts 5 and 9 may be moulded integrally with one another from plastic. The part 5 may be of plastic and the part 9 secured to it during moulding, e.g. by ribs 10 and 11. The member 9 when of aluminium is joined to existing plumbing by screwing into a socket of a cylindrical member of polythene externally threaded at the other end for connection to the plumbing.
