843,055. Cartridge loading apparatus; chargers for cartridges. BREDA MECCANICA BRESCIANA S. p. A. April 30, 1958 [May 16,1957], No. 13667/58. Classes 9(1) and 92 Ammunition feed mechanism for an automatic gun has a conveyer 2 with spaced-apart brackets 11 each receiving a clip or charger 14, 15 of ammunition 13 and manually operated means 23 for moving the conveyer against a spring, step-by-step, to insert the clips in the brackets and to load-the spring which urges the conveyer to feed the gun. The conveyer comprises parallel chains 2 driven from sprocket teeth on the spring casing and supported on rollers 10 beside a pair of guideways 17 which diverge laterally above the breech to disengage the clips from the brackets 11 for loading. The spring winder 23 comprises a handle which turns the spring casing by means of a chain 20 which engages on sprocket teeth at either end. The clips comprise stirrups 14 and 15 and the brackets 11 carry a pair of rollers 16 to engage in the guideways 17; they are retained in the brackets 11 by spring loaded pins (Fig. 2 not shown). A bracket 19 can be rotated clockwise on a pivot at its rear end (as seen in Fig. 7) through 180 degrees to act as a loading rest and guide. The whole magazineframe 1 can be moved forward, as in Fig. 11, by a handle 26 operating a pinion 27 engaging with a rack 27 on the slideways 24.
