Abstract

842,911. Electric ovens. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 2, 1958 [April 8, 1957], No. 11429/57. Class 39(3). [Also in Group XII] An oven for the heat treatment of a continuously moving material 2 has radiant heating means, e.g. electric elements 1, with reflectors 3, a screen 4 being provided between the material and the elements to shield the material should its movement stop. The screen 4 comprises a number of slats 5, e.g. of aluminium, stainless steel or the like, mounted on a supporting frame so that they can pivot about longitudinal axes from the position shown in the left hand side of Fig. 2, to a position transverse to the direction of radiation as shown in the right hand side of Fig. 2, where the slats overlap and form a continuous screen, being operated by small crank arms 8 connected to a common operating rod 9 the longitudinal movement of which enables the slats to be rotated through 90 degrees. The rod 9 may be operated by a falling weight (not shown), held in position by an electromagnet 10 which is de-energised when the drive to the material stops.
