Abstract
842,649. Converting. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO. Ltd. March 26, 1958 [March 27, 1957], No. 10015/57. Class 38 (2). A steady or low-frequency voltage is supplied to a load 9 from a circuit comprising two biased rectifier bridges 7, 8 energized from secondary windings 5, 6 of a transformer whose primary winding 4 is connected to the stator winding 3 of an induction regulator whose continuously rotatable rotor winding 2 is connected to A.C. supply. The rectifier bridges 7, 8 are biased by A.C. from supply, through transformer windings 12, 13, in such a way that they are blocked to load current in respectively different halves of the supply voltage. As rotor 2 turns, halfwaves of current I 7 , Is flow alternately through rectifier bridges 7, 8 and through the load 9, their maximum values varying with the/rotor position so that the load current is given by the average I L of the half-waves, this average having the rotor frequency. With the rotor stationary the load current is unidirectional and of a value determined by the rotor position. The load may be a polyphase motor whose angular position follows that of the generator rotor which also bears polyphase windings, supplying a pair of rectifier bridges from each phase.
