Abstract
Pharmaceutical compositions useful in the treatment of allergic and inflaminatory conditions e.g. asthma, hay fever, allergic eczemas and purpuras comprise as the active ingredient a guanidine compound of the formula:- <FORM:0842325/VI/1> wherein R1 stands for an aryl radical which may optionally be substituted, R2 stands for hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical which may optionally be substituted and R3 stands for a hydrocarbon radical at a heterocyclic radical bath of which may be optionally substituted, provided that when R3 is heterocyclic R2 is hydrogen, and wherein R2 and R3 may be joined with the adjacent carbon atom to form a homo- or heterocyclic ring, or a salt thereof. Such salts may be mineral acid salts or organic acid salts e.g. acetates and salicylates. The compositions may take the form of oral preparations e.g. coated or uncoated tablets, aqueous and oily suspensions, dispersible granules, emulsions or hard or soft capsules; preparations for tropical application e.g. creams, ointments or pastes; or preparations suitable for injection e.g. sterile aqueous or oily suspensions, sterile powders for the preparation of injectable solutions and sterile dispersible powders for preparing injectable aqueous suspensions. The compositions contain the conventional adjuvants e.g. tablet excipients, dispersing agents, suspending agents, emulsifying agents, flavouring agents and preserving agents.
