Abstract

842,111. Centrifugal moulding of fibre-resin pipes &c. YOUNGSTOWN SHEET & TUBE CO. Jan. 10, 1957, No. 992/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A fibre-resin pipe is moulded by forming a liner of glass, vinyl, nylon, rayon, cotton, linen or silk fibres on a mandrel 50, inserting the liner into a mould 52, removing the mandrel, rotating the mould by rollers 56, 58, 60, introducing a polyester or phenolic resin into the mould through a longitudinally moveable member 54, heating the mould, controlling the temperature of the resin by blowing air through jets 62, and then removing the finished pipe. The air may be blown alternately from each end. In modifications, the mould may,be heated before applying the resin ; the resin may be applied during two or three separate longitudinal movements of the member 54, and the mould may be heated to enable the pipe to be removed. The mould may be lubricated with parawax or mineral oil. Mineral oil may be flowed into the mould to form a seal over the inner surface of the pipe to prevent air from inhibiting the polyester resin. Sufficient resin is supplied to form an inner surface thickness of resin alone which is less than 0À10 inches. Specification 760,537 is referred to.
