Abstract

A composition suitable for use in a moulding, potting, adhesive or laminating composition and curable to a resin when heated to 80 DEG -180 DEG C., comprises a mono-epoxide, a di-anhydride of a polycarboxylic acid and an amino curing catalyst; the amount of di-anhydride being such as to provide 0,5-1,0 anhydride groups for each epoxide group, and the amount of catalyst being 0,01-2 % by weight of the epoxide. The di-anhydride may be pyromellitic di-anhydride or cyclopentanetetracarboxylic di-anhydride. The catalyst may be dicyandiamide, diisopropylamine, dimethylibenzyalmine, N-hydroxypropyl ethylenediamine, the tris (2-ethyl-hexanoate) of 2,4,6-tris (dimethylaminomethyl) phenol, ethylenediamine, cyclohexylamine, tertbutylamine, m-xylylene diamine, aniline, piperidine or methylenedianiline. Examples describe curable compositions comprising (1) Glycidyl p-toluate, pyromellitic di-anhydride and dicyandiamide (2) -(4) Phenyl glycidyl ether, pyromellitic dianhydride and idcyandiamide, N-hydroxypropylethylenediamine or tert-butyl-amine.
