Abstract

841,558. Artificial respiration apparatus. ELECTRONIC & X-RAY APPLICATIONS Ltd. and TUNNICLIFFE, E. A. J. Sept. 7, 1956 [Sept. 8, 1955], No. 25766/55. Class 81(2) [Also in Group XXVIII] Artificial respiration apparatus comprises a hollow container formed of two interfitting relatively movable parts 1, 2 which between them define a space to hold the parts of a mechanical breathing apparatus and constitute the working chamber of an air pump when in use. The container consists of lower and upper fibre-glass cylindrical parts 1, 2, each closed at one end, the upper part 2 being slidable over the lower part 1. A pipe 5 connects the interior of the container with a cuirass applied to the patient. The upper part is moved up and down over the lower part by a lever 12 or handles 19 to produce a pulsating pressure in the air in the container and the cuirass. The lever is pivoted to a block 13 secured to the end wall 3 of the upper part and to a link 10 connected to the lower part. A foot stand consisting of a bar 8a keeps the lower part stationary. A one-way inlet valve 16 and a pressure gauge are provided on the end wall of the upper part. When not in use the operating lever and the link, both of which consist of several detachable bars, and the foot stand, the pipe 5 and the cuirass are stored within the container. Specification 789,593 is referred to.
