Abstract

Aminodithiothiazoles of the formula <FORM:0841419/IV(b)/1> where R and R1 are the same or different aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aralkyl groups, or together with the nitrogen atom form a saturated heterocyclic ring, and R2 is a 2-thiazole or 2-arylene-thiazole, are prepared by reacting R2SH or R2SSR2 with <FORM:0841419/IV(b)/2> in the presence of an oxidizing agent and sulphur. Solvents may be used. Suitable compounds R2SH include 2-mercapto thiazole and its alkyl- and phenyl-substituted derivatives, 2-mercaptobenzthiazole and its phenyl substituted derivatives, 2-mercapto tetrahydrobenzthiazole, and 2-mercaptonaphthothiazole; the disulphides corresponding to these may be used. Suitable amines include dialkylamines, dicyclohexylamine, morpholine, thiomorpholine and piperidine. Specified oxidizing agents are sodium hypochlorite, bromine, chlorine, H2O2, and potassium and ammonium persulphates.
