Abstract
840,985. Linear-dimension gauges. PITTER GAUGE & TOOL CO. Ltd. June 3, 1958 [June 6, 1957], No. 17996/57. Class 106 (2). A height gauge of the kind used in conjunction with dial comparators, scribers &c., and comprising a vertically displaceable rod 10 connected at its upper end to a micrometer head 15, is characterized in that the rod 10 is provided with two series of gauge faces 22, 23 facing upwards and downwards respectively, each face 22 being in the same horizontal plane as a face 23. The gauge faces 22, 23 are provided in notches 20, 21, respectively. The feeler 16 of the micrometer head 15 rests on a ball 26 in a recess 25 in the top of the rod 10 which is urged upwardly by a compressionspring 30 located in recess 28. The measuring lever of a comparator &c. is adjusted to the height of a point &c. on the article from which the measurement is to be made and the micrometer head 15 is adjusted to bring the nearest gauge face into contact with the lever. For an upwardlyfacing point &c. an upwardly-directed gaugeface 22 is used. Rod 10 can be rotated to bring the other set of notches to the front and is held in position by the engagement of a spring- pressed plunger 34 (not shown) with a groove on rod 10.
