Abstract
The invention comprises fluorescent dyes of the formula: <FORM:0840887/IV (c)/1> wherein R1 is H or OH, R2 is H, OH, or OCH3, R3 is OH or sugar residue-O, R4 is H or OCH3, and Z is COOH or SO3M where M is H or a cation. The compounds may be made by halogenating a flavanone, e.g. hesperidin, hesperetin, naringenin, eriodictyol and citronetin and condensing with a compound of the formula: <FORM:0840887/IV (c)/2> In examples, this last compound is condensed with chlorinated hesperetin, chlorinated naringenin, chlorinated eriodictyol, and with 8-chloro-3-phenol-benzogammapyrone. The products may be used to dye fabric, wood, cellulose, wool, nylon or used in soaps and detergents.
