Abstract

840,707. Electrostatic precipitation. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A. G. Feb. 10, 1959 [April 24, 1958], No. 4681/59. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XII] An electrostatic precipitator, e.g. comprising three groups of electrodes for cleaning gases emerging from blast furnaces, is preceded by a Venturi cleaner and scrubber Ve which is itself preceded by a preliminary ionizer J, and an axially arranged pressurised water nozzle De acts as an injector into the Venturi cleaner in order to produce a gas pressure at the outlet of the precipitator which exceeds that at the crude gas inlet. The cleaned gas is then utilized for ventilating the electrical insulators associated with the electrostatic precipitator and the preliminary ionizer. The gas stream emerging from the Venturi cleaner impinges on plates St and is deflected through 180 degrees to pass through the precipitator. Several liquidflushed Venturi after-cleaners and coolers may act on the gas stream after it leaves the precipitator, the gas stream being again deflected through 180 degrees to pass through these cleaners. These Venturis are situated on either side of the pre-cleaning Venturi Ve. The complete water-circulating system is described. Water is also provided for spray devices Ed and flushing devices Eb in the precipitator and for an annular chamber R surrounding the Venturi inlet which injects water to clean the Venturi throat. Clean water used in the Venturi aftercleaners may be circulated to the pre-cleaning. Venturi Ve, non-return valves are provided in the water circuit to ensure that pressurised water is still supplied to the Venturi Ve in the event of failure of the main water pressurising pump. Clean gas may also be supplied to the annular chamber R if desired.
