An appliance for confining a queen bee outside the hive, and for reintroducing it into the hive, comprises a box a having a sliding glass top and a perforated base, in combination with a funnel-like member f whose tapered end h is sufficiently small to pass through the entrance of the hive and penetrate the brood body. The base e of the box is provided with a closable hole which is opened and placed in register with a hole g in the funnel when it is desired to allow the queen bee to pass from the box, via the funnel-like member, to the hive.
