Abstract

Beaded filaments are produced by coating yarns with high viscosity plastisols, drying and heating, and then applying low viscosity plastisols followed by further drying and heating to cause the low viscosity plastisol coatings to contract and harden. Yarns of natural fibres, e.g. cotton, artificial fibres, e.g. regenerated cellulose and cellulose acetate, fully synthetic organic fibres, e.g. nylon and acrylic fibres, and inorganic fibres, e.g. glass and metal fibres, may be treated. Polyvinyl chloride and copolymers thereof with other vinyl compounds, especially vinyl acetate and vinylidene chloride, plasticized with adipates of higher alcohols or mixtures thereof with phthalates of higher alcohols are preferred plastisols, and may be used as such or diluted with one or more higher aliphatic hydrocarbons. The low and high viscosity plastisols preferably differ only in solution, although low viscosity plastisols having a basis of a different synthetic resin from the high viscosity plastisols may be used, it being preferable in this case to use the low viscosity plastisols in association with an anchoring compound, e.g. polyethylene imine or a poly iso cyanate. Attractive effects may be obtained if the low and high viscosity plastisols have contrasting colours.
