Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula: <FORM:0840178/IV (c)/1> where X is a metallisable group, Y a phenolic or enolic OH group or a primary or secondary amino group #s to N2, n is 1 or 2, B is the coupling component residue, R is H or a lower alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radicle, R1 a lower alkyl radical which may contain chlorine, methoxy or ethoxy substituents and R2 is as R1 or together therewith is a saturated heterocyclic residue and A and B may contain further substituents the aminosulphonylamino group being in A or B or both A and B. The invention also includes metal complexes of the above dyes, chromium and cobalt complexes being preferred. "Lower" is defined as containing 1-5 carbon atoms. The dyes are made in conventional fashion from appropriate diazo and coupling components metallisation, if desired, being effected in substance, or on the fibre, to yield 1, 2-complexes. These components may contain the same substituents as the diazo components, the aminosulphonylamino group being preferred. The dyes dye wool, silk, leather and synthetic polyamide fibres by the after-chroming or one-bath chroming process in red, yellow, brown, green, blue, violet and grey shades. The metal complexes dye the same materials in similar shades. Complexes which are soluble in organic solvents can be used in spinning solutions and for colouring paints, lacquers and plastic materials. Numerous examples and a Table are provided illustrating the preparation of the dyes and their complexes, and their use in dyeing processes, from the components indicated above and other suitable components, barbituric acid being an additional coupling component.
