Abstract

840,086. Transistor oscillator circuits. BULOVA WATCH CO. Inc. May 14, 1956 [May 12, 1955], No. 14867/56. Class 40 (6). [Also in Group XVIII] An electric battery driven timepiece has a tuning fork vibrator 1102, Fig. 1, which is maintained in oscillation by impulses from a driving coil D connected to the collector of a transistor to the base of which is connected a sensing or pick-up coil S, as shown in Fig. 2. The base of the transistor is positively biased by an R-C network. The alternating voltage induced in the sensing coil S overcomes the positive base bias during part of the fork vibratory cycle and the alternating voltage induced in the driving coil D which is dependent on the amplitude of fork vibration determines the collector voltage and current and so determines the magnitude of the maintaining impulses. The maintaining impulses are normally just sufficiently powerful to keep the fork vibrating at its natural frequency with an amplitude sufficient to correctly drive the ratchet wheel 1121, Fig. 1. During start-up the impulses imparted to the fork are stronger until the fork reaches the desired amplitude. If because of shock, the fork amplitude is excessive the maintaining impulses are correspondingly weaker or even cut-out until the fork resumes its normal amplitude. Specification 761,609 is referred to.
