Abstract

Polymers of the graft type are made by reacting a linear polyethylene in an inert solvent, e.g. benzene, with ethylene and/or vinyl acetate in the presence of a peroxide free-radical polymerization catalyst, e.g. tert.-butyl perbenzoate or di-tert.-butyl peroxide. At the termination of the reaction any homopolymer or copolymer which has been formed may be removed by solvent extraction.
