Abstract
839,965. Parturition apparatus. HEYNS, O. S. Jan. 11, 1957 [Jan. 14, 1956; Dec. 13, 1956], No. 1167/57. Class 81 (2). Apparatus to facilitate parturition comprises a decompression chamber 32 having a base 21 on which it can stand stably, a part 31 in its upper face shaped to make a seal with the body of a parturient seated on the chamber, around the pelvic outlet, and suction means to reduce the pressure in the chamber. During the second stage of labour and after delivery, for removal of the placenta, the patient is seated on a bed 25 which is converted into a chair by raising the head portion 26 and lowering the foot portion 27. A central portion 30 has a hole 31 beneath which the chamber 32 having a window 39 is located. The patient sits on a rubber rim of a kidney-shaped port 33 at the top of the chamber. A reduction of pressure produced in the chamber by a pump 37 is transmitted to the pelvic floor by way of the vagina and the surrounding tissue to assist in displacement of the foetus. During delivery the hole 31 is covered by a shutter and the bed portions are arranged horizontally.
