Abstract

839,571. Brazing;making dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 31, 1956 [Oct. 31, 1955], No. 33244/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXV] The active surface of a commutator is increased by brazing the leads 4 directly into slots 8 cut in the ends of the segments 6. A brazing compound 10, preferably largely copper, and including silver and phosphorus, is inserted into the slots with the leads, and heat is applied by passing current between electrodes 12, 13 placed on the segment and top lead respectively. A slot 11 prevents the current passing along the surface. The surface is skimmed to allow its whole length to be used as brush track.
