Abstract
1306926 Current collection in dynamoelectric machines NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 20 May 1970 [27 Feb 1969 2 Sept 1969] 10624/69 and 43481/69 Heading H2A A current collection arrangement in a dynamo-electric machine comprises a main brush 13 engaging the commutator or slip ring 12, and an auxiliary brush 17 made of a material which is softer, more flexible and of lower resistivity than that of the main brush and providing a current path electrically in parallel with that through the main brush. The main brush may be of carbon and the auxiliary brush of carbon fibres, and a resistor R or capacitor may be included in the circuit of the latter. In Fig. 5 the auxiliary brush 17 engages an auxiliary commutator 15 whose segments are connected (16) to corresponding segments of the main commutator 12, but alternatively the auxiliary brush may be placed alongside, ahead of or behind the main brush so as to engage the main commutator itself.
