839,469. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. LOEWE, S. Aug. 1, 1956 [Aug. 18, 1955], No. 23688/56. Class 40 (2). A magnetic tape recorder having reels 1, 2 driven by a motor 5 through friction discs 13, 14 is provided with additional friction discs 22, 23 which are selectively brought into operation by a pivoted control mechanism 26, 30 in order to permit high-speed rewinding of the tape 3 without further unwinding when the winding reel is stopped. As the disc 22 or 23 comes into operation the corresponding disc 13 or 14 is uncoupled by virtue of the lift imparted to the associated spindle 11, 12, adjustment of the lift being effected by eccentrics 28, 29.
