Abstract

1,133,821. Tape recorder. EPSYLON RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. 26 Sept., 1966 [27 Sept., 1965], No. 40959/65. Heading G5R. A tape recorder is prepared for operation when the lid 13 of a box 11 containing the recorder is lowered. The recorder is supplied with magnetic tape from a twin spool cassette 33 which is located on a platform 35 by pins 36 and secured by spring catches 38. Drive hubs 39, 40 which are mounted on the platform and engage the tape spools within the cassette, are each provided with three spring-loaded pins 42 which locate in a groove in the spool bore and urge the spool into driving contact with a flange 43 on the hub which is covered with frictional material. The lid 13 of the box is provided with three brackets 16-18 each of which carries a roller which during opening or closing of the box co-operates with an associated upstanding stem 20, 22, 24 respectively mounted on spring-loaded slides 19, 21, 23. On closure of the lid the outer slides are moved to actuate guide means which urge the loop of tape, extending externally of the cassette between the two spools, into contact with the two pairs of record and playback heads, 29-32 and the inner slide is shifted to move a pinch roller 26 and hence the tape into contact with capstan 27 which can drive the tape in either direction. In addition on closure the lid switch means (not shown) are actuated to energize a pair of solenoids which remove the brakes from oppositely rotating spool-hub drive motors.
