Abstract
877,077. Loading recording tapes. ATVIDABERGS INDUSTRIER A.B. Feb. 9, 1960 [Feb. 9, 1959], No. 4555/60. Class 40 (2). An information storage tape 13 is loaded, Fig. 3, through a guide channel 38 by a weight 14, wider than the tape, a limited acceleration motor arrangement (Figs. 1, 2, not shown), driving the tape-reel 12 to enable the weight to fall nearly freely. When the weight passes a photo-electric detector 52, 53, a carriage 58 is moved along rails 55 to the Fig. 4 position where a member 44 presses the tape against a head 43 and loops of tape are stored between rollers 39, 42. This produces a high acceleration of the reel 12, the tape being prevented from rising in the channel 38 by a fork member 51, wider than the tape but narrower than the weight 14, entering recesses 49. A solenoid 48 is energized to engage a pinch-roller 47 with a constantly rotating capstan 46 to drive the tape, initial snatch being eased by the resilience of a spring 56, which pulls the arm 41 to form the loops in conjunction with pneumatic damping means (not shown).
