Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:0837716/IV(c)/1> where X is a metallizable substituent o to the diazo group, y is H or Me, A is the residue of a diazo component of the benzene series and R a mono- or di-nuclear aromatic residue, and their 1,2-metal complexes. Preferred are dyes which in their metal-free form are of formula <FORM:0837716/IV(c)/2> where Z-H is OH or COOH, w is H or a sulphonamide group which may be substituted and V is H or Cl. Cobalt and chromium are preferred metals. The dyes are made by coupling appropriate diazo compounds with the requisite 5-aminopyrazole and metallizing if desired. Metallization may be effected in substance or on the fibre. Preferably X is OH, HrO or COOH. Indicated as substituents for A and R are chlorine, bromine, acetyl-, carbomethoxy-and carboethoxy-amino, methyl, ethyl, tertbutyl, methoxy, sulpho, sulphonamido, methyl-, dimethyl -, 21 - hydroxyethyl -, di - 21 - hydroxy - ethyl -, hydroxypropyl -, methoxypropyl -, phenyl - and 21 - carboxyphenyl-sulphonamido and methyl- and ethyl-sulphonyl groups. The dyes colour wool, silk, leather and polyamide fibres by the one-bath chrome or afterchrome processes in orange or brown shades. The metal dyes colour the above fibres from neutral or weakly acid baths in similar shades. Dyes which are soluble in organic solvents are used in the mass dyeing of artificial fibres, and colour paint and lacquer media and plastic moulding compounds. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their metal complexes and the use of the latter in various dyeing processes including the preparation of a coloured solution of cellulose acetate for a spinning unit. Compounds corresponding to A used in the examples contain as substituents additional to those indicated above 21-ethoxyethyl -, isopropyl -, isopropylpropyl, 41 - methyl - and - methoxy - phenyl - and benzylsulphonamido and methylsulphonylamido groups, the groups corresponding to R being phenyl with nitro, bromo, chloro, methyl, methoxy, sulpho, sulphonamido, sulphon-phenyl - and - cyclohexyl - amido, acetylamino, methylsulphonyl, and methyl- and phenyl-sulphonylamino groups as substituents and residues of a naphthyl sulphonic acid and 21,31-tetramethylenephenyl - 41 - sulphon - methyl - and -di-methylamides.
