837,288. Torquemeters. VYZKUMNY A ZKUSEBNI LETECKY USTAV. July 12, 1956, No. 21589/56. Class 40 (1). Torque is measured by means of a rodshaped ferromagnetic body clamped at one end and subjected to the torque at the other; A.C. is passed along a conductor which lies in an axial bore in the body and, in the absence of torque, produces no pick-up in a coil surrounding the body; torque deforms the body and the induced voltage in the coil is measured. In the Figure current flows along the wire 1 in an axial bore of the body 2 and the torque applied at the right-hand end is measured by the voltmeter V. The wire 1 may be replaced by one leg of a toroidal winding. Supply voltage fluctuations do not affect the readings if the body is magnetized to saturation.
