Abstract
837,279. Ultrasonic wave couplings. AEROPROJECTS Inc. June 13, 1956 [June 23, 1955], No. 18281/56. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] A magnetostrictive mechanical wave generator 1 and a coupling 6 are secured to a support by means of a resonant member 7 at least onehalf wavelength in length at the operating frequency. The resonant member is free at one end and is secured to the generator (or to the coupling) at the other. The support is fixed to the resonant member at the intervening node 9. In the generator, 2 and 4 are the exciting and polarizing windings. The resonant member may be in the form of a sleeve 25, Fig. 2, secured at one end 26 to the coupling 24, the other end 27 being free. The sleeve has a flange 28 which is secured to the support 30. In another arrangement. Fig. 3, the resonant member consists of two metal bars 46 attached to a flange 45 adjacent the junction between the generator and the coupling. The bars are supported by clamps 49 at nodes 48.
