Abstract

837,252. Circumcision devices. KARIHER, D. H., and SMITH, T. W. April 30, 1958 No. 13790/58. Class 81 (2). A device for performing circumcision comprises a hollow bellshaped body 11 open at both ends, the opening at the posterior end being enlarged and an exterior annular flange 12 being provided adjacent the anterior end. The bell-shaped body 11 is made of material which is soft enough to be cut but brittle enough to be broken by bending, e.g. butyrate. Adjacent the flange 12 is a circumferential groove 14. An integral Y-shaped handle 15 is thin where it is attached to the body so that it may be severed from it easily. In use, the body 11 is placed over the glans penis, and the prepuce, in which the usual dorsal slit has been made, is drawn over the body 11 and compressed into the groove 14 by a silk or linen ligature. The handle 15 is then removed and the body 11 left in place for several days.
