Abstract

837,208. Screw conveyers. PAWSEY, M. S. Oct. 18, 1957 [Sept. 3, 1956; June 20, 1957], Nos. 26825/56 and 19459/57. Class 78 (1). Harvested grain is transferred from a collecting vehicle to a silo by discharging it into a hopper 3 having downwardly convergent sides 6 and containing a horizontal screw conveyer 8 which delivers the grain to a bucket-type elevator 13. The hopper is bolted to angle irons 1 upstanding from feet 2 which, preferably, are provided with wheels. The sides 6 are joined by a strip 7 immediately above which is situated the screw 8. A shield 22, Fig. 4, having vertical lower walls 23 is suspended above the screw by vertical bars 24 pivoted to arms 25 fast on a rotatable shaft 26. The size of the gap between the lower edges of the walls 23 and the sides of the hopper is varied by turning the shaft 26. Grain passes through an opening 9 in the wall 5 into the elevator boot. In a modification the elevator is of the bucket wheel type. In another modification over-spill from the elevator discharges into a reservoir provided above the hopper and discharging into it.
