Abstract

837,103. Pile straightening and shearing. SEAMLESS COVERS Inc. Nov. 27, 1956 Jan. 30, 1956], No. 36176/56. Class 42 (1). The pile of a tubular fabric roller cover is successively and repeatedly straightened and sheared while the cover is rotated about its axis. The cover may be of tubular knitted fabric or may be made from natural wool pelt or knitted fabric seamed helically or longitudinally to form a tube. The covers are successively placed on continuously rotated spindles 23, on a continuously indexed rotary table 22, at a loading station 25, Fig. 1. Each cover then pauses in succession, for several seconds, at three combing stations 26, 27, 28, a first shearing station 29, two further combing stations 30, 31, a second shearing station 32, bottom and top bevel shearing stations 33, 34, a highvacuum station 35 and an unloading station 36. Vacuum is provided for a nozzle at each combing or shearing station from sources 37, 42 and high vacuum to stations 32, 35 from a source 50. Fibres removed from the covers at stations 26, 27, 28 are collected at source 37 to be reused. Pile combing.-At each combing station, spindle 23, Fig. 8, rotates at about 30 revolutions per minute and a comb 80, having radial wire teeth 75, rotates oppositely and slightly faster. The vacuum conduit, such as 39, strips loose fibres from the comb teeth. Preferably, combs at successive stations are progressively finer. Shearing.-At each shearing station, a highspeed rotary cutter 97, Figs. 9 and 10, and a stationary cutter 103 are mounted on a bracket 93 which can be swung back about a pivot 126 on a slide 125, for sharpening and adjusting the cutters. Slide 125 is adjustable by means of a screw 129. The low-vacuum conduit, such as 44, communicates with the space around the cutter 97. At station 32, the cover is subjected to high vacuum through a nozzle 120. At the bottom bevel shearing station, Fig. 11, a small rotary cutter 112 co-operates with a stationary cutter to bevel the end of the cover. Cutter 112, together with its driving motor 111, is mounted on a plate 110 angularly adjustable on a vertically adjustable slide 107. The top bevel shearing mechanism is constructed similarly.
