[Also in Group XVI] In a bias cutting machine having a horizontal mandrel over which tubular material is passed spirally, the material is cut by an adjustable disc cutter 24, Fig. 2, and is pulled over and around the mandrel in a predetermined direction by means of a plurality of adjustable spaced driven rollers 25 co-operating with adjustable spring- pressed idler rollers 48. The material leaving the mandrel is engaged by an adjustable windup roller 26, Fig. 1. The cutter, pulling and idler rollers, and wind-up roller are adjustable simultaneously and to the same angle relatively to the axis of the mandrel by means of a crank handle 60, Fig. 2, operating shafts 59, 79 provided with worms 58, 80 which engage worm gears 31, 31<SP>1</SP> associated with the cutter, pulling and idler rollers, and wind-up roller, the amount of angular adjustment being indicated by a pointer 63, Fig. 2, movable over a dial 64. The cutter is driven by means of a belt and pulleys from an electric motor 90 (not shown) and the pulling rollers and wind-up roller are similarly driven from an electric motor 41, the idler rollers being driven in synchronism with the pulling rollers by means of shafts and bevel gearing. The rollers 48 may be lowered out of engagement with the material, when desired, by means of a crank arm 54, Fig. 9, which turns a shaft 53 on which are mounted cam arms 55 engaging pivotally-mounted spring-influenced arms 51 each associated with a roller 48. The material passes between the cutter 24 and a groove 83 in a block 81 which is angularly adjustable simultaneously with, and to the same amount as, the cutter. The mandrel comprises bars 15 and a gravity-operated bar 17 supported on a U-shaped beam 14, the bars 15 being connected by adjustable rods 16 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 11, the mandrel comprises pivotally-supported guide plates 93 which are adjustable angularly by means of a crank arm 106 operating a shaft 105 provided with worm gears 104, the amount of angular adjustment being indicated by a pointer 108 movable over a dial 107.
