Abstract

836,874. Conveyer drives. BERRIDGE AIRCRAFT Ltd., and TILLEY, D. R. June 15, 1956 [June 15, 1955], No. 17271/55. Class 78 (1). An endless conveyer comprises a first driving means 2 for imparting intermittent movement to it at one location, a second driving means 6 for imparting continuous movement to it at another location, and a displaceable guide means 7, 8 for taking up and relinquishing slack in the conveying element so that the different travelling movements occurring at the different locations are unaffected by each other. As shown, the endless conveyer chain 1 is driven intermittently by mechanism 2 so that the article carried by the conveyer chain may remain stationary sufficiently long for the article to be painted, and is also driven by continuous mechanism 6 so that the painted articles may be passed along laps 3 through drying tunnels. The slack in the chain is automatically taken up and released by oppositely-working sprockets 7, 8 which are connected together and are pivoted at 10. The article holders 14 carried by chain 1 are guided by rollers 20, 21 and 24. The conveyer may be used for the apparatus set out in Specification 777,826.
