Abstract

836,745. Spark apparatus. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. June 6, 1958 [Oct. 2, 1957], No. 18104/58. Class 39(1). A high voltage, high current multiple spark gap switch comprises a metal electrode 13 having six convex protuberances 15, 17, 19, 21 &c. arranged in a circle with a trigger probe 43 extending through each protuberance and insulated therefrom by a dielectric sleeve 26. An insulating disc 27 supports six electrodes 29, 31, 33, 35 &c. opposite the protuberances. The assembly is completed by a metal sleeve 11 and a dielectric sleeve 12. The electrodes are made of highly conductive material such as copper or silver. A stout wire 41 is connected to electrode 13, and individual connecting wires are provided for the electrodes 29, 31, 33, 35 &c. The switch is connected in a circuit, Fig. 3 (not shown), for discharging a bank of condensers through a load.
