Abstract
836,577. Friction couplings. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO. Ltd. May 25, 1956 [June 14, 1955], No. 17094/55. Class 80 (2). A friction coupling which slips on overload, between a member 2 fast on a shaft 1 and a member 10 loose on the shaft, comprises four resilient steel plates 13 carried by their ends in grooves 12 in a flange of member 10 and contacting a cylindrical flange 6 of member 2. The flange 6 may have a surface of anodized aluminium and the plates 13 may be surfaced with Nylon, " Ferodo " (Registered Trade Mark) or polythene, or vice versa. As shown, member 10 is claw coupled to a gear-wheel 16 geared to a driving motor. Cooling fluid may be passed through the interior of the coupling which will accommodate slight angular and axial misalignment. The coupling may be used for alternative manual or power drive of a variable capacitor and slips at the limits of adjustment thereof.
