Abstract

<PICT:0835601/IV (a)/1> Apparatus for processing artificial threads comprises one or more roller systems having a main or processing roller and one or more coacting secondary thread-advancing rollers, the latter being so disposed that any cross section of the roller system or systems taken perpendicular to the axis of the main roller of each system will show one secondary thread-advancing roller, the axes of the secondary rollers being all similarly inclined with respect to said axis, which is substantially horizontal. At least the main roller extends along several supply stations of the thread to be processed, and in at least one of the roller systems the radius of the main roller is at least 10 cm., the radius of the secondary roller or rollers is not greater than half the radius of the main roller and the distance between the secondary roller or rollers and the main roller is not greater than the radius of the main roller. As shown in Fig. 1, the thread 11 from the spinneret 1 is guided over a main roller 14 and secondary thread-advancing rollers 16 to a further roller assembly comprising a main roller 17 extending across several spinnerets and secondary rollers 18. The latter may conveniently be mounted in pairs. The roller 17, which is provided with flanges 16a, is sprinkled with a dilute acid solution, water and bleaching liquor from nozzles 22, 23, 24 respectively. The treating liquids drain from the roller 17 into a gutter 25 and from this through apertures 27-29 into troughs 30-32. After leaving the rollers 17, 18, the thread passes to roller system 19, 20 on which the thread is given a final wash with water supplied to the trough 33. The thread then passes to roller system 21-21a on which it is dried, the main roller 21 being internally heated by steam. In another form of apparatus threads f (Fig. 4), are supplied from spinnerets 1 located beneath the roller system 14, 15 and pass through this system and the trough 37 (shown in continuous lines) to the right-hand roller system comprising a main roller 16, secondary advancing rollers 17 and a supply pipe for treating liquid 37b. Freshly spun threads e supplied from spinnerets situated at the right-hand of the drawing travel in a similar fashion to the treatment roller system at the left-hand of the drawing through the trough 37 shown in dotted lines.
