835,586. Ratchet gearing. COLDEN MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. March 5, 1958 [Jan. 30, 1957], No. 3232/57. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XVI] Mechanism for intermittently driving in one direction an endless belt 20 comprises a crosshead 3 reciprocated along guide bars 2 and carrying a hinged tooth 13 engaging hardened blocks 12 spaced along and connected between two endless chains 11, whereby the latter are driven during the leftward stroke of the crosshead, the tooth 13 sliding over the next block 12 on the return stroke. One pair of chain sprockets 10 are secured to a shaft 15 fitted with a sprocket 16 driving a chain 17 which drives a sprocket 18 on a shaft 19 carrying a drum 14 driving the belt 20. The sprockets 16, 18 are changeable to vary the distance moved by the belt 20 at each step.
