Abstract

Adducts of (a) urea, thiourea or biuret, with (b) a tin compound wherein two tin valencies are combined with a carboxylic acid, are obtained as insoluble precipitates on mixing, e.g. methanolic solutions of the components. Tin compounds exemplified are tin- and dibutyltin dioleate, dilawate and distearate. A tindioleate-urea adduct (4.8% Sn) is specified; this compound is prepared by dissolving the tin-dioleate in a warm methanolic solution of urea, or by dissolving urea in the warm liquid tin-dioleate and allowing either mixture to cool.ALSO:Chlorine-containing polymers, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride or copolymers of vinyl and/or vinylidene chloride, as well as low-pressure polyolefins containing chlorine as an impurity, are stabilized by means of a mixture or adduct of (a) urea, thiourea or biuret with (b) a tin compound wherein two valencies of tin are combined with a carboxylic acid. Tin dilaurate, dioleate and distearate, and dibutyl tin dilaurate, dioleate and distearate are specified. In examples, a synthetic wax (probably based on fatty acid amides), diphenylsulphone - 3:31 - disulphhydrazide and dioctyl phthalate are also mentioned. Unspecified softening agents, lubricants, fillers and dyestuffs may be present.
