Abstract

Vinyl halide polymers are plasticised and stabilized by incorporating therein an epoxide compound of the general formula <FORM:0800309/IV (a)/1> where R1 and R2 represent alkyl groups containing from 4 to 12 carbon atoms and the group (CnH2n-1O) an epoxy-alkyl group containing from 4 to 12 carbon atoms. The polymer may be polyvinyl chloride, or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate or diisopropyl fumarate. Specified epoxy compounds are di-2-ethylhexyl epoxypentylsuccinate, di-2-ethylhexyl epoxyheptylsuccinate, di-2-ethylhexyl epoxyhexylsuccinate, di-2-ethylhexyl epoxynonylsuccinate, decyl-2-ethylhexyl epoxyoctyl succinate, and di-decyl epoxyhexylsuccinate. The epoxy compounds may be prepared by the process described in Specification 799,383, [Group IV (b)]. Conventional plasticisers and stabilizers, e.g. cadmium-barium compounds, may also be added.
